2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Augusta Regional Free Clinic provides important health care services to low-income and uninsured residents of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County; and
WHEREAS, the vision for an area free clinic came from the late Percy Wilson, a beloved Stauntonian pharmacist whose friends raised seed money upon his death to help make his dream a reality; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta Hospital Corporation, now Augusta Health Care, provided a generous start-up gift and continues to provide staff, materials, and services to aid in the Augusta Regional Free Clinic’s mission; and
WHEREAS, in 1993 the Augusta Regional Free Clinic first opened its doors at the Valley Vocational-Technical Center in Fishersville; as the need for clinic services expanded, a generous supporter donated land on Mule Academy Road as the site for a new clinic; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta Regional Free Clinic embarked on a successful capital campaign to raise $1 million for the construction and furnishing of a new facility and establishment of a Building Fund to endow future building expenses; and
WHEREAS, in 2001 the Augusta Regional Free Clinic welcomed its patients, staff, and volunteers to the new, state-of-the-art facility; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta Regional Free Clinic enjoys the support of dedicated staff and skilled volunteers who generously give of their time and services to ensure that all the residents of Augusta County have access to health care; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Augusta Regional Free Clinic for its continued commitment to providing quality health care to those in need; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Augusta Regional Free Clinic as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for the clinic’s work and best wishes in its future endeavors.
