Commending the E.C. Glass High School boys’ track team.

WHEREAS, after a stellar season, the E.C. Glass High School boys’ track team is the 2012 state champion in the Virginia High School League Group AA indoor track and field competition; and

WHEREAS, the talented and hardworking E.C. Glass team, which is coached by Rodney Smith, displayed discipline and steely determination at the state finals, with a winning team score of 68 points, ahead of second-place Lafayette High School, which had 56 points; and

WHEREAS, Harrison Scharf, a senior at E.C. Glass High School, won the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.52 seconds and was the anchor in the 800-meter relay, which the Hilltoppers won with a time of 1:32.45; and

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass team members were extremely strong competitors in the 55-meter dash, with runners taking 4th and 6th place in the final race, in addition to Harrison Scharf’s winning effort; and

WHEREAS, other strong performances at the meet included E.C. Glass senior David Barney’s second-place finish in the 1,000-meter race; he also anchored the 3,200-meter relay team that came in third; sophomore Matthew Zajac finished third in the shot put with a heave of 52-2 feet; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the E.C. Glass High School boys’ track team for winning the 2012 Virginia High School League Group AA indoor track and field state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rodney Smith, head coach of the E.C. Glass High School boys’ track team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on an outstanding season.
