2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Hugh W. Rosser served on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors for 52 years, retiring in 2011 as the longest serving supervisor in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Naruna High School and Virginia Commercial College, Hugh Rosser served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan and in the Philippines; he returned home after his military service and at the age of 32, was elected to the board of supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Hugh Rosser began serving on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors in 1959, representing the Seneca District; his goal was to always act in the best interests of county residents, and he steadfastly urged fiscal restraint in the county’s business affairs; and
WHEREAS, those who served with Hugh Rosser over the years greatly admired his ability to stay calm in every circumstance and his habit of not divulging, in advance, his vote on controversial matters that came before the Campbell County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, as part of the meeting marking Hugh Rosser’s retirement, staff members distributed a booklet of especially memorable sayings and quotations made by Hugh Rosser during his tenure on the board of supervisors, urging the recipients to refer to it often when they sought advice and guidance; and
WHEREAS, throughout his half-century of public service and as a strong business leader in the community, Hugh Rosser’s primary goal was to serve Campbell County’s residents while laying the groundwork for a future of economic well-being; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Hugh W. Rosser for his 52 years of dedicated public service as a member of the Campbell County Board of Supervisors; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hugh W. Rosser as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his many years of service to the residents of Campbell County and best wishes in his future endeavors.
