2012 SESSION
12104473DWHEREAS, Sam Mays served the City of Buena Vista as a member of the Buena Vista City Council for almost two decades; and
WHEREAS, Sam Mays first became a member of the Buena Vista City Council on July 1, 1992, and he served with great diligence and attention for 19 years, until December 31, 2011; during his tenure in city government, he dedicated much time and energy to listening to and responding to residents’ needs; and
WHEREAS, in working for the betterment of his city, Sam Mays served on the Buena Vista Park Authority, ensuring that residents and visitors alike had attractive public spaces for play and leisure, realizing how fortunate its citizens were to live in such a beautiful part of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Sam Mays put in many hours of hard work as a member of the Public Recreational Facilities Authority of Buena Vista; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as a member of the Buena Vista City Council, Sam Mays also continued to meet the challenges of successfully operating a family business; and
WHEREAS, Sam Mays significantly contributed to the city as vice mayor, a council member, committee member, and through his efficiency and effectiveness; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend a dedicated public servant, Sam Mays; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sam Mays as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and appreciation for his many years of service to the City of Buena Vista.
