12104509DWHEREAS, Sharlet Rowley Bouchelle, a mother of four from Buena Vista, was named the Virginia State Mother of the Year 2011 by American Mothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, American Mothers, Inc., a nonprofit, interfaith organization founded in 1933, provides educational, cultural, and spiritual programs for mothers of all ages and backgrounds, annually selects State and National Mothers of the Year, and promotes the role of “mother” as a building block of society; and
WHEREAS, mothers throughout the Commonwealth deserve to be represented and to have their needs and issues met in order to bring to pass the improvement of our society and the betterment of the lives of each member thereof; and
WHEREAS, the family is integral to the nurture and growth of the children in the Commonwealth, and the mothers’ role in the family is one that should be appreciated, applauded, and protected; and
WHEREAS, the role of motherhood is a vital one to the Commonwealth and to the sustainability of our culture; and
WHEREAS, Sharlet Bouchelle’s mother placed family first and provided a secure atmosphere as her husband served two combat tours in Vietnam and the family lived overseas and in military communities across the United States; and
WHEREAS, the wife of Joe Bouchelle, Sharlet Bouchelle has carried on her mother’s legacy of being a strong mother while raising and teaching her and her husband’s four children in Georgia, South Korea, China, and Virginia; and
WHEREAS, while living abroad, Sharlet Bouchelle helped her children develop an appreciation for other cultures and countries and provided a nurturing and safe environment for them to call home; and
WHEREAS, as the Virginia Mother of the Year, Sharlet Bouchelle attended the American Mothers Inc. National Convention and has been promoting the ideals of motherhood throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sharlet Rowley Bouchelle on her selection as Virginia State Mother of the Year 2011 by American Mothers, Inc.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sharlet Rowley Bouchelle as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her commitment to promoting strong mothers and families.
