Celebrating the life of Zachary Taylor Whitacre.

WHEREAS, Zachary Taylor Whitacre, a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Gore Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company 14 in Frederick County, died in the line of duty on February 13, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of James Wood High School, Zachary “Zach” Whitacre took pride in his family’s tradition of service to the community and followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps by joining the Gore Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company in 2011; and

WHEREAS, a hardworking young man, Zach Whitacre diligently advanced his firefighting knowledge and skills while demonstrating great initiative as he pitched in to help in whatever way he could at the firehouse; and

WHEREAS, Zach Whitacre became part of the Gore community’s firefighting family and earned the nickname “Jukebox” from his fellow firefighters for his love of singing country music; and

WHEREAS, Zach Whitacre was a vital member of the Gore Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company and the local community; he was honored for his dedicated efforts and ultimate sacrifice at a service that attracted hundreds; and

WHEREAS, the death of Zach Whitacre serves as a solemn reminder of the perils faced daily by those who serve their communities as first responders; and

WHEREAS, a kind and thoughtful young man, Zach Whitacre leaves behind to cherish his memory many loving family members, friends, fellow firefighters, and the community of Gore; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected volunteer firefighter, Zachary Taylor Whitacre; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Zachary Taylor Whitacre as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
