2012 SESSION
12103878DWHEREAS, Boyd Walker served the residents of the Town of Glasgow with great dedication as a member of the Town Council from 2002 until his retirement in 2011; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Tidewater Community College, Boyd Walker enjoyed a successful 30-year career with the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer and relocating to the Town of Glasgow, where he works as a substitute teacher at Rockbridge County High School; and
WHEREAS, Boyd Walker immersed himself in community and civic affairs, volunteering with the Glasgow Lifesaving and First Aid Crew, Glasgow Food Pantry, Glasgow Moose Lodge, and Rockbridge County Library board of trustees; and
WHEREAS, Boyd Walker remained committed to serving his fellow veterans through his affiliation with American Legion Post 74 and the George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to his fellow residents, Boyd Walker ran for and won election to the Glasgow Town Council; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant, Boyd Walker worked alongside his fellow council members and town and county officials to ensure the efficient and effective operation of local government; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Street and Lights Committee, Boyd Walker devoted many hours to attending meetings and responding to citizen concerns; and
WHEREAS, because of his deep appreciation of the Town of Glasgow’s scenic beauty, friendly atmosphere, and many attractions, Boyd Walker encouraged efforts to provide quality services to residents and a great experience for visitors; and
WHEREAS, Boyd Walker looks forward to spending time with family and friends and continuing to serve the local community through his volunteer activities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Boyd Walker on the occasion of his retirement from the Glasgow Town Council; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Boyd Walker as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his commitment to public service.
