2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, with a soaring 6-foot, 6-inch leap, Travis Hudson of Christiansburg earned the 2011 state title for the high jump in the Virginia High School League Group AA 2011 Boys’ Indoor Track state championship; and
WHEREAS, a Christiansburg High School standout, Travis Hudson is a triple-crown holder in the indoor high jump, winning the Group AA title in 2009 and 2010, with leaps of 6-feet, 7-inches as a sophomore in 2009, and 6-feet, 9-inches in 2010 as a junior; and
WHEREAS, Travis Hudson also has conquered the high jump in district, regional, and state Boys’ Outdoor Track competition; he won the state Group AA high jump title in 2011, with a bound of 6-feet, 5-inches, and he was a winner in 2009, with a winning jump of 6-feet, 8-inches; and
WHEREAS, another one of Travis Hudson’s many honors includes being named the District Indoor Track & Field athlete of the year; he also finished in fourth place nationally in the high jump, and in sixth place in the pentathlon; and
WHEREAS, Travis Hudson is a two-time All-American in the high jump and the pentathlon, and he raced to a seventh-place finish in the National Scholastic Indoor Championships pentathlon in New York; and
WHEREAS, Travis Hudson set a school record and district record of 45.3 feet in the indoor triple jump during his senior year; he also set records in the outdoor high jump in 2011; and
WHEREAS, while excelling on the track, Travis Hudson grew and matured during high school, resolving—and succeeding—to focus on athletics and academics; and
WHEREAS, Travis Hudson mastered both goals; he now is a freshman at Radford University, where he is a member of the Men’s Track and Field team, and is majoring in exercise, sport, and health education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Travis Hudson for being named the Virginia High School League Group AA champion in the Indoor Track high jump competition for three consecutive years, and for winning the Outdoor Track high jump competition in 2009 and 2011; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Travis Hudson as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his dedication to both academics and athletics.
