2012 SESSION
12105484DWHEREAS, Kenneth A. Guthrie, a firefighter/engineer with the Danville Fire Department, was named the 2012 American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Firefighter of the Year; and
WHEREAS, after joining the Danville Fire Department in 1987, Kenneth A. “Kenny” Guthrie rose through the ranks, showing a dedication over the years that few members can match; he currently serves as hazardous materials specialist on the Danville Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team; and
WHEREAS, Kenny Guthrie, who is an emergency medical technician, serves on the Danville Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team; additionally, he has served on the Recruit Team and on the Standard Operating Guideline and Truck Committees; and
WHEREAS, Kenny Guthrie’s dedication extends to his hometown of Providence, North Carolina, where he was a member of the Providence Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years; he was secretary/treasurer of the department for four years and served as fire chief for 15 years; and
WHEREAS, on his days off from the Danville Fire Department, Kenny Guthrie continues his selfless practice of public service as assistant director of emergency services at Virginia International Raceway; and
WHEREAS, a true professional, Kenny Guthrie has earned the respect of his peers by consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and respect for his colleagues and his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Kenneth A. Guthrie for being named the 2012 American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Firefighter of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kenneth A. Guthrie as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and congratulations for his tireless and devoted work to make Danville a safer place.
