WHEREAS, Timothy B. Scearce, a corporal in the Danville Police Department, has received the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 award for Police Officer of the Year for 2012; and

WHEREAS, Timothy Scearce, who joined the police department in 1996, has been the police department’s Crime Prevention Officer since 2007 and has successfully mastered its many responsibilities while serving the residents and businesses of Danville; and

WHEREAS, as Crime Prevention Officer, Timothy Scearce works with individuals, community organizations, and businesses; he organizes Neighborhood Watch programs, bicycle safety rodeos, child safety seat checks, and prescription drug turn-in efforts; and

WHEREAS, Timothy Scearce makes many presentations to the public on a wide range of crime prevention measures, including Internet safety, personal safety, robbery prevention, retail crime prevention, identity theft prevention, and traffic safety measures; and

WHEREAS, Timothy Scearce prepares several monthly reports for the Danville Police Department, including mapping crime trends, compiling crash data, and deploying and gathering information from the department’s mobile speed devices; and

WHEREAS, due in part to the hard work of Timothy Scearce, the Danville Police Department was the second-place winner in the 2011 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge competition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Timothy B. Scearce for receiving the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 award for Police Officer of the Year for 2012; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Timothy B. Scearce as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and congratulations for his tireless and devoted work to make Danville a safer place.
