HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 42
Commending Alexander Nicholas Vance.

WHEREAS, Alexander Nicholas Vance of Roanoke County is the state record holder in the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke, having achieved that record at the 2010 - 2011 Group A/AA Virginia High School League swimming competition, with a record-breaking time of 56.60 seconds; and

WHEREAS, Alexander “Alex” Vance also won the state championship in the boys’ 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1 minute and 51.56 seconds at the Virginia High School League meet, which was held in Christiansburg; and

WHEREAS, Alex Vance, together with his Hidden Valley High School teammates Mark Adams, Dylan Otruba, and Lucas Otruba, captured the boys’ 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute and 36.94 seconds at the state meet; and

WHEREAS, as a champion swimmer from Southwest Virginia, Alex Vance has been selected as a first team All-Timesland athlete four times and in 2011 was chosen the All-Timesland Swimmer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Alex Vance, twice named Virginia Swimmer of the Year, is a three-time Scholastic All American; he also has qualified for the 2012 United States Olympic team trials in the 200-yard breaststroke; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Alexander Nicholas Vance on his 2010 - 2011 state championship performance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alexander Nicholas Vance as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for his many athletic achievements.
