WHEREAS, Joshua Weissman, a dedicated paramedic with the Alexandria Fire Department, died on February 9, 2012, from injuries sustained when responding to a car fire on February 8, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Joshua “Josh” Weissman joined the Alexandria Fire Department in April 2006 as a Medic I and was promoted to Medic II in 2007; and

WHEREAS, a highly trained paramedic, Josh Weissman was then certified as a Medic III, acting EMS supervisor, and had served in that capacity, in addition to being certified as a NREMT-Paramedic in the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians; and

WHEREAS, Josh Weissman held instructorship status in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Basic Trauma Life Support; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor, Josh Weissman played a pivotal role in the establishment of a field training program for emergency medical services interns and a training program on mass casualty incidents; and

WHEREAS, Josh Weissman was a vital member of the Alexandria Fire Department who researched and proposed innovative procedures and protocols to more effectively and efficiently treat patients in the field and identified the latest equipment on the market that might be useful to the department; and

WHEREAS, Josh Weissman was also a member of the EMS Training Committee, the EMS Quality Management Committee, and the EMS 1/5/10/20 Committee; and

WHEREAS, the recipient of numerous letters of appreciation from members of the Alexandria community, Josh Weissman was honored by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce with a Valor Award and a 2011 Alexandria Jaycees James E. Shortt Alexandria Fire Department Award for his work on the Field Training Program for EMS Interns; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated first responder and one of Alexandria Fire Department’s finest, Josh Weissman served the residents of the City of Alexandria with great skill and commitment while earning the respect of his colleagues and leaders; and

WHEREAS, the tragic loss of Josh Weissman is a solemn reminder of the perils faced daily by those who serve as first responders; and

WHEREAS, Josh Weissman will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Rebecca; numerous other family members and friends; the Alexandria Fire Department; and the residents of the City of Alexandria; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a devoted paramedic, Joshua Weissman; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joshua Weissman as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
