HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 41
Commending Annie Houston LeHardy.

WHEREAS, Annie Houston LeHardy, the 2010 - 2011 Gatorade Virginia Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, was a stand-out scholar-athlete for Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke County; and

WHEREAS, Annie LeHardy’s list of running achievements include winning the Virginia High School League Girls Cross Country Group AA state championship for 2010 - 2011, setting a course record time of 17 minutes and 34 seconds; and

WHEREAS, in her senior year at Hidden Valley High School, Annie LeHardy was chosen as MileStat.com’s cross country runner of the year; additionally she won the Group AA track and field state championship in the 1,600 meter race with a time of 4 minutes and 57.07 seconds and holds a school record in that event of 4 minutes and 55.84 seconds; and

WHEREAS, additional running awards include being named a finalist in 2009 and 2010 at the Nike Cross Nationals meet, and receiving All-State honors in the 800 and 1,600 meter races for all four years of high school; and

WHEREAS, Annie LeHardy demonstrated academic excellence at Hidden Valley High School, where she maintained a 4.10 grade point average; and

WHEREAS, while in high school, Annie LeHardy was a member of the National Beta Club and the Titan Twelve community-service organization; she also was involved with her church youth group and was a full-care service provider to the elderly in their homes; and

WHEREAS, Annie LeHardy, now a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is a runner for the women’s cross country team; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Annie Houston LeHardy for her athletic achievements in cross country and track and field; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Annie Houston LeHardy as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for excelling both academically and athletically.
