HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 418
Commending Timothy A. Rudy.

WHEREAS, Timothy A. Rudy, whose strong and unwavering commitment to public safety in Prince William County was evident throughout his 33 years as a member of the Prince William County Police Department, retired in February 2012; and

WHEREAS, Timothy A. “Tim” Rudy graduated from York College of Pennsylvania, majoring in police science and criminology; he first worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a fingerprint examiner; and

WHEREAS, on January 8, 1979, Tim Rudy became a patrol officer with the Prince William County Police Department; he was promoted to corporal in 1984, served as a supervisor of operations in the Eastern District of the county, and in 1986, became supervisor of the Crime Prevention Unit; and

WHEREAS, Tim Rudy worked in many areas of the police department; he was promoted to sergeant and served as assistant to Police Chief Charlie T. Deane, and he then returned to operations, where he was promoted to first sergeant in 1991 and lieutenant in 1995, serving as operations watch commander; and

WHEREAS, in 1998 Tim Rudy was promoted to captain and assumed the role of director of the Criminal Justice Training Academy for the police department; he planned and developed training programs that helped to ensure that the police force met the highest standards of police work; and

WHEREAS, in continuing to further his own professional development and to stay current with the latest policies and procedures, Tim Rudy attended the 199th session of the FBI National Academy, graduating in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Tim Rudy became the Eastern District commander for the Prince William County Police Department in 2003, a position he held for seven years until he was promoted to major in 2010, and he has served as assistant chief of police for support services; and

WHEREAS, Tim Rudy also has served as acting police chief, and has played a key role in planning, developing, and managing the police department’s $73 million budget; he supervised the department’s property, supplies, and fleet; and administered promotional and recruitment programs; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend an outstanding career law-enforcement officer, Timothy A. Rudy, on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Timothy A. Rudy as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his dedication and service to Prince William County.
