2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Tiana Dockery of Yuma, Virginia, a student at Mountain Empire Community College, was crowned Miss Teen Virginia International 2012; and
WHEREAS, during her reign, Tiana Dockery will work to raise money for the American Heart Association; she was born with a heart murmur and has worked since childhood to ensure that she maintains a regular lifestyle, with a special focus on diet and exercise; and
WHEREAS, Tiana Dockery, a 2011 graduate of Gate City High School, visits schools to talk with elementary children about the importance of regular daily exercise and making healthy eating choices; she is helping at a “Hoops for Heart” program at Yuma Elementary School in February; and
WHEREAS, as Miss Teen Virginia International 2012, Tiana Dockery will participate in the “Jump Rope for Heart” program at local schools, take part in area heart awareness walks, hold fundraising breakfasts at local restaurants, and host a community bike ride in June; and
WHEREAS, Tiana Dockery, who is an AIMS scholar at Mountain Empire Community College, plans to study social work at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise; she works part-time at Dairy Queen while also managing her many responsibilities as Miss Teen Virginia International; and
WHEREAS, in July, Tiana Dockery will travel to Chicago to compete in the Miss Teen International pageant; she looks forward to representing the Commonwealth at the competition and expects to make many new friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Tiana Dockery on being crowned Miss Teen Virginia International 2012; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tiana Dockery as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes in her future endeavors.
