12105369DWHEREAS, Chris Fisher, a corporal with the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, was named the 2011 Mike Bentowski DARE Officer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, as a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer, Chris Fisher travels to Alleghany County elementary schools to teach students how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug-free and violence-free lives; and
WHEREAS, a popular and effective teacher, Chris Fisher explains the consequences of drug use and shares practical tips on how to say no to drugs, constructively deal with conflict, and make good decisions; and
WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of students in Alleghany County, Chris Fisher devotes considerable time and energy to the DARE program, and his genuine commitment and concern are evident to teachers, parents, and students alike; and
WHEREAS, an exemplary role model, Chris Fisher has developed strong working relationships with local students, administrators, and parents as he strives to ensure that the children of Alleghany County have the necessary education and skills to say no to drugs; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding police officer, Chris Fisher also coordinates the department’s annual bike rodeo and serves as the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office crime prevention and Neighborhood Watch coordinator; his efforts with local neighborhoods have resulted in the organization of 30 Neighborhood Watch programs; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding achievements by Deputy Sheriff Chris Fisher have brought distinction and honor to the entire Alleghany County Sheriff’s Department under the able and effective leadership of Sheriff Kevin Hall; and
WHEREAS, Chris Fisher received the 2011 Mike Bentowski DARE Officer of the Year award at a ceremony in Hampton and will now be considered for the National DARE Officer of the Year Award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Chris Fisher on his selection as the 2011 Mike Bentowski DARE Officer of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chris Fisher as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his commitment to the children of Alleghany County and a copy to Alleghany County Sheriff Kevin Hall.
