2012 SESSION
12105181DWHEREAS, Boofie and Joe O’Gorman were honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2012 Best of Reston Award; and
WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, as the parents of two daughters, Boofie and Joe O’Gorman began their community involvement through local youth sports organizations—Joe coached basketball and soccer while Boofie managed a swim team and served as president of the Reston Swim Team Association; and
WHEREAS, committed to the health and well-being of local residents, both Boofie and Joe O’Gorman have actively supported the Reston Triathlon, sponsoring up to 30 police officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel participants every year; and
WHEREAS, Joe O’Gorman serves on the board of directors of the Reston Triathlon Association and played a pivotal role in the creation of the Reston Sprint Triathlon, with proceeds benefiting Reston Interfaith; and
WHEREAS, the chair of the YMCA Fairfax County-Reston board of managers, Boofie O’Gorman worked to partner the YMCA and the Reston Association to form the Reston Kids Triathlon, which has become a popular and successful race; and
WHEREAS, Boofie and Joe O’Gorman are also enthusiastic supporters of Reston Interfaith, adopting a family for Christmas each year and ensuring that they enjoy a joyous holiday celebration; Boofie also serves as chair of the annual Capitol Steps benefit performance for the organization; and
WHEREAS, Boofie O’Gorman, through her real estate company, organizes coat and food drives and recycling days for community members and, as a Kids R First supporter, helps provide school supplies to area schoolchildren; she also serves on the Wolf Trap Foundation Associates Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Boofie and Joe O’Gorman thoughtfully provided financial support to enable St. Anne’s Episcopal Church to purchase a new organ and music programs and to assist HomeAid of Northern Virginia with projects that help the homeless; and
WHEREAS, Boofie and Joe O’Gorman have opened their home to numerous community organizations over the years for fundraising events and receptions while generously supporting a variety of causes; and
WHEREAS, Boofie and Joe O’Gorman epitomize the love of community and selfless spirit of giving that helps makes Reston a great place in which to live, work, play, and get involved; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Boofie and Joe O’Gorman on their outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on their well-deserved honor as 2012 Best of Reston Award recipients; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Boofie and Joe O’Gorman as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for their tireless dedication to Reston.
