HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 39
Commending Leah Piemonte.

WHEREAS, Leah Piemonte, during her sophomore year at Christiansburg High School, won the 2010 - 2011 Virginia High School League Group AA girls’ one-meter diving championship; and

WHEREAS, this victory was Leah Piemonte’s second Virginia High School League state diving title in as many years; she improved on her 2009 - 2010 record-setting score by more than 90 points; and

WHEREAS, in preparing for the 2010 - 2011 meet, which was held in Christiansburg, Leah Piemonte devoted hours of practice to mastering dives that were harder than last year’s attempts and had a higher degree of difficulty; and

WHEREAS, in meeting this ambitious goal, Leah Piemonte scored 460 points in nine dives, which was a full 92 points higher than her 368-point score at the previous year’s state championship; and

WHEREAS, diving has been an integral part of Leah Piemonte’s life since she was a young girl; her mother is a coach for divers from four different high schools and her father, who coaches Leah, is the coach for the Virginia Tech diving team; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Leah Piemonte on winning her second consecutive Virginia High School League Group AA girls’ state one-meter diving championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leah Piemonte as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and congratulations on her dedication and achievements in the sport of diving.
