Commending Reston Little League.

WHEREAS, Reston Little League was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2012 Best of Reston Award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Reston Little League provides the youth of Reston the opportunity to learn sportsmanship, enjoy the game of baseball, and understand the importance of community without regard to skill level or ability to pay; and

WHEREAS, committed to its mission of helping all children enjoy America’s favorite pastime, Reston Little League created a Challenger Division, one of the first of its kind in the Commonwealth, for children with physical and mental disabilities; the children partner with buddies who provide assistance and encouragement; and

WHEREAS, Reston Little League players are assigned to teams through a “common pool” placement policy, as opposed to remaining on the same team their entire Little League career; the policy promotes community cohesiveness as participants play with more children while their families also have the opportunity to meet more community members; and

WHEREAS, an all-volunteer league, Reston Little League enjoys the support of over 450 parent volunteers who not only volunteer at games, but also at special events and programs such as the Opening Day Parade at Reston Town Center and the end-of-season picnic, while generous business sponsors provide vital financial resources; and

WHEREAS, in 2011 the Reston Little League Nationals were thrilled to capture the district championship and win the Virginia State Little League Baseball Tournament to advance to the Southeast Regional tournament; and

WHEREAS, Reston Little League has been an integral part of the Reston community for 40 years, helping bring together members of the community over the shared love of their children and the game of baseball; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Reston Little League on its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2012 Best of Reston Award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Reston Little League as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for its tireless dedication to Reston.
