HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 385
Commending Robert A. Carlson.

WHEREAS, Robert A. Carlson has served the residents of Caroline County for more than 50 years as a member and officer of the Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad; and

WHEREAS, Robert A. “Bob” Carlson first joined the rescue squad in 1961 as a teenager, and over the years he has held many leadership positions, including serving as president of the squad in 1983, and captain in 1989, 2007, 2010, and 2011; and

WHEREAS, as Caroline County has changed in the last half century, the skills needed by first responders also have changed; Bob Carlson is certified to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency medical technician-B, and has achieved emergency vehicle operation certification; and

WHEREAS, to better serve the businesses of Caroline County, the thousands of people who drive through the county daily on Interstate 95, and the residents of  new subdivisions, Bob Carlson has played a key role in ensuring that the squad’s vehicles, equipment, and training are up-to-date; and

WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Caroline County, Bob Carlson is a graduate of C.T. Smith High School and belongs to Ladysmith Baptist Church; he is married to Frances Carlson and is the father of two children and has four grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend a dedicated public servant and first responder, Robert A. Carlson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert A. Carlson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and appreciation for his many years of providing emergency care to the people of Caroline County.
