WHEREAS, the 2011 - 2012 Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble captured a Group AA state championship win at the Virginia High School League State Theatre Festival; and
WHEREAS, the talented one-act play ensemble took first place at both the Valley District competition and Region III competition to advance to the state competition; and
WHEREAS, the Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble members chose to perform “The Anatomy of Gray” at the state competition, where they faced seven other one-act play ensembles from across the state; and
WHEREAS, “The Anatomy of Gray,” set in the late 1800s, chronicles the events of a small Indiana town named Gray when a plague strikes local residents, and it provided members an opportunity to showcase their theatrical talents; and
WHEREAS, the Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble also performed “The Anatomy of Gray” at the Virginia Theatre Association Secondary School Festival, where they won first place, competing against 39 other schools; and
WHEREAS, the Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble will next perform at the Southeastern Theatre Conference High School Theatre Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in March; and
WHEREAS, the entire Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble had an outstanding performance with Megan Clinedist and Andrew Rains both capturing best acting awards; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble for its Group AA state championship win at the Virginia High School League State Theatre Festival; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Turner Ashby High School one-act play ensemble as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the students’ commitment to the performing arts and their award-winning productions.
