WHEREAS, Lauren Gray of Roanoke County collected her third straight swimming championship by winning the 2010 - 2011 Virginia High School League Group AA girls’ 500-yard freestyle competition with a time of 5 minutes and 1.87 seconds; and

WHEREAS, Lauren Gray holds the Virginia High School League Group AA swim meet record for the 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 4 minutes and 54.95 seconds, which she won in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Lauren Gray won the three consecutive titles while she was a student at Hidden Valley High School; her multi-year successes were a major reason Hidden Valley High School claimed the Group AA girls’ swim team championship in 2009 and 2010; and

WHEREAS, Lauren Gray was named to the All Timesland girls’ first team for 2010 - 2011, joining three other teammates who also received All Timesland recognition for their swimming talent; and

WHEREAS, Lauren Gray began swimming when she was eight years of age; she honed her talent during many hours of practice at the Carter Center Aquatics swimming pool; and

WHEREAS, state champion Lauren Gray is a freshman at East Carolina University, where she is a member of the women’s swim team, specializing in the butterfly and distance freestyle events; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lauren Gray on her outstanding performance in the 500-yard freestyle swimming competition at the 2010 - 2011 Virginia High School League Group AA state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lauren Gray as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and congratulations for her state championship title.
