HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 370
Commending the Fauquier Livestock Exchange, Inc.

WHEREAS, the Fauquier Livestock Exchange, Inc., located in the Scott District, was honored as a 2011 Citizen of the Year by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, the Fauquier Livestock Exchange proudly celebrates 50 continuous years of sales in 2012; the Exchange, which is a strong promoter of Fauquier County’s long and successful agricultural heritage, held its first cattle sale in April 1962; and

WHEREAS, the Fauquier Livestock Exchange, a symbol of the way of life that has flourished in this still-rural county for more than 200 years, has a new facility that is emblematic of a greener, more energy-efficient future—solar laminates cover more than 42,000 square feet of the Exchange; and

WHEREAS, when the management of the Fauquier Livestock Exchange rebuilt the facility, they were installing the largest privately owned building-integrated solar system in the Commonwealth to date; the solar laminates generate enough electricity to power 70 townhomes; and

WHEREAS, the management of the Fauquier Livestock Exchange was committed to protecting the environment and the Commonwealth’s many natural resources with the Exchange’s specialty solar installation; the green energy system will provide a vital—and renewable—source of energy well into the future; and

WHEREAS, recent cattle sales at the Fauquier Livestock Exchange have achieved record prices, a sign of the good health enjoyed by the Commonwealth’s livestock industry; more than 1,000 head of cattle were sold in December 2011, and over 600 head of cattle were sold at the livestock exchange in January 2012; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Fauquier Livestock Exchange in the past half-century is due to the many hours of hard work and the commitment of many people, including Ross Poe, chairman; Mark Seitz, president; Lindsay Eastham, vice president and general manager; and directors Kevin Jennings and Roger Beavers; all employees are focused on ensuring that this vital agricultural enterprise is run according to the principles of sound environmental stewardship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Fauquier Livestock Exchange, Inc., as a 2011 Fauquier County Citizen of the Year for the Scott District; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ross Poe, chairman of the Fauquier Livestock Exchange, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for its support of and dedication to the community of Fauquier County.
