Commending Mary Lettie Toodle Norman.

WHEREAS, Mary Lettie Toodle Norman, a respected citizen of the Commonwealth and a woman of strong faith, is honored on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Mary Norman, who was born in Plymouth, North Carolina, on January 6, 1912, was the daughter of Early Toodle and Caroline Thomas Early Toodle; and

WHEREAS, Mary Norman married her husband, James, in North Carolina, and the couple had nine children; the family moved to Norfolk in 1943, which was a bustling and busy place as the city focused its energies on the war effort; and

WHEREAS, Mary Norman, who joined Philippi Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Norfolk, has been a faithful and active member for seven decades; her weekly presence at Sunday services is an inspiration to the rest of the congregation; and

WHEREAS, the world has been reshaped in Mary Norman’s lifetime by forces such as electricity, the automobile, and two world wars; throughout she has remained true to her Christian faith and continues to find strength, respite, and renewal at Philippi Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, the family, friends, and fellow members of Philippi Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ have joined Mary Norman, a devout and steadfast Christian, in celebrating this special centennial birthday with prayers and good wishes; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mary Lettie Toodle Norman on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Lettie Toodle Norman as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for future health and happiness.
