Commending Dr. Norris Royston, Jr.

WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Royston, Jr., of the Marshall District of Fauquier County was honored as a 2011 Citizen of the Year by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Royston received a bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Virginia; he then earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia and completed a three-year residency at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that good medical care is vital to all communities regardless of size, Dr. Royston, a family physician, founded Countryside Family Practice in Marshall in 1976, where he continues to practice today; and

WHEREAS, throughout his medical career, Dr. Royston has been active in the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV), promoting quality health care throughout the Commonwealth; he was president of the organization in 2006, and he has been MSV’s Speaker of the House, chairman of the Virginia Medical Political Action Committee, and a member of the MSV Nominating Committee; and

WHEREAS, a strong advocate for quality health care for residents in the Commonwealth’s northern tip, Dr. Royston served as president of the medical staff of Fauquier Hospital and was a member of its Board of Directors; he also has been president of the Fauquier County Medical Society; and

WHEREAS, in helping to further medical education in Virginia, Dr. Royston was chair of the Dean’s Advisory Committee at the Medical College of Virginia, and continues to stay active in local and state medical organizations; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Royston is deeply involved in the Fauquier community; he is a director of Oak View National Bank, and in 2009, when he received the Good Scout Award from the Piedmont Region Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, television personality Willard Scott was the master of ceremonies at the dinner held in his honor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Royston has served as a member of Virginia’s Secure Commonwealth Panel and in that capacity works with state and local officials, first responders, and other business leaders and citizens to promote emergency preparedness for all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Norris Royston, Jr., as a 2011 Fauquier County Citizen of the Year for the Marshall District; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Norris Royston, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his dedication to the health and well-being of the residents of Fauquier County.
