Celebrating the life of Champlin Fletcher Buck III.

WHEREAS, Champlin Fletcher Buck III, a devoted family man, highly decorated veteran, and faithful advocate of the real estate industry in the Commonwealth, died on December 17, 2011; and

WHEREAS, born at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Champlin “Champ” Buck grew up in a military family at posts across the United States; his family eventually settled in Washington, D.C., where he graduated from Landon School; and

WHEREAS, Champ Buck attended Lehigh University before fulfilling his dream of graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point and following in his family’s proud tradition of military service; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated officer who earned the respect of his fellow soldiers, Champ Buck had his first armor assignment while stationed in Nürnberg, Germany; became battalion commander of the 2 - 8 Cavalry at Fort Hood, Texas; and served in the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, Champ Buck earned a master’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology while in the service and taught a rising generation of soldiers at the United States Military Academy at West Point; and

WHEREAS, Champ Buck returned to the Washington, D.C., area for several military assignments and concluded his illustrious career at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as a colonel; and

WHEREAS, Champ Buck continued to utilize his skills as a defense and security systems analyst for several years before retiring again and joining his wife, Pat, in the real estate business in 1993; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic member of the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, Champ Buck took an active role in legislative events to promote the real estate industry and Realtor issues while providing outstanding service to his clients; and

WHEREAS, a man of tremendous integrity, Champ Buck served his community and country with great dedication and leaves behind a sterling legacy of service; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Champ Buck will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 54 years, Pat; children, William, Christopher, and Andrew, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an outstanding citizen of the Commonwealth, Champlin Fletcher Buck III; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Champlin Fletcher Buck III as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
