Commending Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital on the occasion of its 45th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Sisters of Bon Secours and Bon Secours Richmond Health System, a not-for-profit Catholic health system with four hospitals in the greater Richmond metropolitan area—St. Mary’s Hospital, Memorial Regional Medical Center, Richmond Community Hospital, and St. Francis Medical Center—is to provide good help to those in need; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, the first hospital in the Bon Secours Richmond Health System, celebrates 45 years of providing “Good Help to Those in Need,” which began when the hospital opened on January 9, 1966, as Richmond’s first and only Catholic hospital; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital is a 391-bed acute-care hospital with a full array of services, including cardiac, orthopaedic, women’s, pediatric, surgery, oncology, imaging, neurology, and emergency services; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, known for excellence in health care, was named in 2011 as the top hospital in Virginia for cardiac surgery services by HealthGrades and is also a Magnet designated hospital, a designation based on strong visionary nursing leadership and excellence in nursing practice; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital employs over 2,000 employees, more than 1,200 associated physicians, and thousands of volunteers under the leadership of CEO Toni R. Ardabell; and

WHEREAS, St. Mary’s Auxiliary, made up of thousands of dedicated volunteers, is celebrating 25 years of advocacy and service to patients and staff, as well as fundraising efforts that support a variety of services ranging from the emergency department to the hospital gift shop; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital on the occasion of its 45th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for the hospital’s commitment to health care excellence and service to patients in the greater Richmond community for the past 45 years.
