12103323DWHEREAS, Jennifer Ruley of Churchville, one of nine Virginia athletes who competed at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, captured a silver medal in bocce singles, bocce doubles, and the bocce team competition at the international event; and
WHEREAS, over 7,500 athletes traveled to the historic city of Athens, Greece, to participate in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games held June 25 - July 4, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer Ruley has played basketball and soccer; participated in equestrian events, gymnastics, and figure skating; and captured gold and bronze in bowling at the Special Olympics 2010 USA National Games; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer Ruley began playing bocce only a few years ago and quickly mastered the game, becoming part of the United States bocce team that traveled to Athens, Greece, in 2011 to compete against teams from around the world; and
WHEREAS, prior to the opening of the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, Jennifer Ruley had the opportunity to meet Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, who attended the games as part of a presidential delegation; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer Ruley had great fun meeting fellow competitors from different countries and demonstrated her prowess at bocce by capturing a silver medal in bocce singles, bocce doubles, and the bocce team competition; and
WHEREAS, a talented bocce player and inspiring role model, Jennifer Ruley proudly represented Churchville, the Commonwealth, and the nation at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Jennifer Ruley on her outstanding Special Olympics bocce career and her exemplary performance in Athens, Greece, at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jennifer Ruley as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her dedication to the Special Olympics, her fellow athletes, and the sport of bocce.
