2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Carroll LaHaye, head coach of the women’s basketball team at Randolph-Macon College, won her 500th game on January 13, 2012, an achievement of which only a few coaches can boast; she is the 15th women’s basketball coach in NCAA Division III history to reach this milestone; and
WHEREAS, this is Carroll LaHaye’s 30th season as coach of the Yellow Jackets, and for this special game, parents of current players and basketball alumni who played for Coach LaHaye as far back as the 1980s returned to Crenshaw Gym to cheer the team to victory; and
WHEREAS, the Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball team’s opponent for this fateful game was Roanoke College, and while the first half was a nail-biter for Yellow Jackets fans, the team hit its stride in the second half and ultimately prevailed with a final score of 82 - 70; and
WHEREAS, Coach LaHaye holds the record of being the second winningest women’s basketball coach in Old Dominion Athletic Conference history, and to celebrate win number 500, Randolph-Macon College president Robert Lindgren presented Carroll LaHaye with the game ball; and
WHEREAS, Carroll LaHaye, who both coaches and teaches at Randolph-Macon College, has received many honors, including the IKON/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association District V Coach of the Year in 1998 and Randolph-Macon’s Samuel Nelson Gray Distinguished Professor Award in 2005; and
WHEREAS, other honors Carroll LaHaye has earned include being named the ODAC Coach of the Year three times and the Richmond Times-Dispatch state Coach of the Year in 2003, and she has been recognized by the Virginia Sports Information Directors as coach of the year five times; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Carroll LaHaye, head coach of the Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball team, on the occasion of her 500th victory; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carroll LaHaye as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her commitment to her students and players, her three decades of hard work, and her outstanding success.
