Commending the Norfolk State University football team.

WHEREAS, college football is one of America’s most celebrated sports; and

WHEREAS, Norfolk State University (NSU) has reason to celebrate as the Spartan football team claims its first ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship title; and

WHEREAS, the Spartan football team performed exceptionally well throughout the 2011 - 2012 football season, earning a 7 - 1 conference record and a 9 - 3 overall record; and

WHEREAS, as a result of this record, NSU secured an automatic berth in the 20-team Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs; and

WHEREAS, the Spartan football team was ranked No. 20 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com (FCS) Top 25 poll, its highest-ever ranking that has generated national recognition for the team, the athletic program, and the University; and

WHEREAS, the University is very proud of the performances of these young men who have exhibited exemplary teamwork under the leadership of Head Coach Pete Adrian and his coaching staff; and

WHEREAS, the University will revel in this great accomplishment for years to come with cheers and praise from the entire Spartan family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Spartan football team, the Head Coach, and the coaching staff for the valuable contributions made in athletics during the 2011 - 2012 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Spartan football team, Head Coach Pete Adrian, and the coaching staff as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations for the championship win and the team’s outstanding performance.
