12104685DWHEREAS, Wallace F. Hardaway, an admired member of the Blackstone community who faithfully served as a volunteer firefighter for 56 years, died on October 9, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Wallace Hardaway joined the Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department in 1952 and served in various officer positions throughout his career, including as fire chief from 1980 to 1984; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to the well-being of his fellow residents, Wallace Hardaway devoted countless hours to responding to calls, promoting fire safety education, and battling all types of fires; and
WHEREAS, Wallace Hardaway saw many changes to the department over the years and played a pivotal role in ensuring his fellow firefighters received ongoing training and upgrades to equipment; and
WHEREAS, an exemplary role model for youth, Wallace Hardaway coached Little League baseball for several years, teaching the importance of physical fitness and good sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, a vital member of the community, Wallace Hardaway leaves many loving family members and friends to cherish his memory; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated firefighter, Wallace F. Hardaway; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wallace F. Hardaway as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
