2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Suzanne Savedge Wescoat, a longtime Eastern Shore resident who owned and operated a successful business and took an active role in civic affairs as a member of the Northampton County Board of Supervisors, died on August 8, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Wescoat spent her childhood in Exmore, developing a deep love and appreciation for the Eastern Shore lifestyle that brought her back to the area after she completed her studies at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College; and
WHEREAS, a commercial vineyard owner and operator, Suzanne Wescoat devoted countless hours to the business, growing an array of varietals that yielded quality grapes; and
WHEREAS, living in close proximity to the Chesapeake Bay, Suzanne Wescoat realized the importance of protecting the Eastern Shore’s unique environment and as the population of the area increased, founded Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore to promote balanced growth; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Wescoat volunteered with numerous other local organizations and, desirous to be of further service to the community she loved, ran for and was elected to three terms on the Northampton County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, known for her genuine commitment to her constituents and the area, Suzanne Wescoat worked alongside fellow supervisors and local and county officials to ensure that Northampton County operated in an efficient and effective manner; and
WHEREAS, throughout her tenure, Suzanne Wescoat provided thoughtful guidance and encouraged civil discourse at all meetings while remaining mindful of the needs of all the residents of the county; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Wescoat received many awards and accolades for her contributions to the Eastern Shore, including recognition as an emeritus board member of the Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore and selection as a Public Servant of the Year from the Northampton County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Wescoat leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Jack; children, John and Anne, and their families; other family members and friends; and the residents of the Eastern Shore; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Eastern Shore and Commonwealth, Suzanne Savedge Wescoat; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Suzanne Savedge Wescoat as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
