12104296DWHEREAS, George Linwood Beavers, Sr., a successful small businessman and a longtime member of what is now known as The Plains Volunteer Fire Company, died on April 25, 2011; and
WHEREAS, George Beavers made many contributions to his Fauquier County community, especially in the area of emergency services; he was the last surviving charter member of the volunteer fire department, which was founded in 1950; and
WHEREAS, during his 60 years of active duty with The Plains Volunteer Fire Company, George Beavers served as both chief and president; he also was a member of the Fauquier County Fire and Rescue Association; and
WHEREAS, George Beavers’ sons have proudly continued their father’s legacy; the men are life members of The Plains Volunteer Fire Company, working to keep the residents of Fauquier County safe from harm; and
WHEREAS, George Beavers helped the residents of The Plains in another vital area; he was president of Beavers Auto Service and took pride in providing quality automobile repair services to his friends and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, a man of strong faith, George Beavers was a member of Battlefield Baptist Church in Warrenton; he is remembered as a kind and devout man for whom loyalty, honor, charity to all people, and the determination to hold onto what is right were the hallmarks of his life; and
WHEREAS, George Beavers, whose generosity of spirit and dedication to the citizens of The Plains community will long be remembered, is survived by his loving family, his many friends, and fellow members of the Fauquier County first response services; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a devoted family man and respected public servant, George Linwood Beavers, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of George Linwood Beavers, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
