Commending Blair Construction, Inc.

WHEREAS, Blair Construction, Inc., a family-operated company based in Gretna whose construction projects can be found throughout Southside Virginia, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Roy Blair, who carried his tools in his car, founded Blair Construction in 1911 on the principles of honesty, quality work, and fairness; and

WHEREAS, for many decades, Blair Construction, run first by Roy Blair and then by his son, Addison, focused on building residences that provided families with a solidly built home in which to raise their families; and

WHEREAS, Fred Blair, Addison’s son, joined Blair Construction in 1970 and learned from his father the importance of building not only quality projects but also strong relationships with the community and the value of efficiency and customer service; and

WHEREAS, after Addison Blair passed away in 1976, Fred Blair became the president of Blair Construction and eventually oversaw the company’s transition from residential to commercial and industrial construction; and

WHEREAS, Fred Blair also expanded the company to include Blair Metal Buildings, which provides pre-engineered metal buildings, and ADD Equipment, which specializes in cranes and structural steel; and

WHEREAS, Blair Construction projects have ranged from schools to churches to supermarkets and include the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research and projects for international companies; and

WHEREAS, today, fourth-generation members of the Blair family continue to work for Blair Construction—Addison Blair, Fred’s son, and Tim Clark, Fred’s son-in-law—while the company has grown to over 150 employees; and

WHEREAS, for the past century, Blair Construction has built strong relationships with the community as well as quality residential, industrial, and commercial projects and looks forward to continuing to provide outstanding service to its customers in the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Blair Construction, Inc., on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Blair Construction, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for the company’s contributions to Southside Virginia.
