Celebrating the life of Joseph Dixon, Jr.

WHEREAS, Norfolk native Joseph Dixon, Jr., who was a loving husband, devoted father, and a man of deep faith, departed this life on March 24, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Dixon received his early education in the Norfolk public schools; he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and continued his education at the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College; and

WHEREAS, a proud citizen, Joseph Dixon nobly served his country for five years in the United States Army and was on active duty during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Dixon was a steady and dedicated employee during his professional career; he was a mail carrier for three years, he worked for the Norfolk Naval Supply Center for 16 years, and he was also an employee of the City of Norfolk Parks and Forestry Department; and

WHEREAS, a deeply faithful man, Joseph Dixon was a lifelong member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Norfolk; he sang in the choir, served on the usher board, participated in the Golden Years Ministry, and attended the noon Bible study class; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Dixon also had other interests; he was a former president of the Park Place Civic League, a Cub Scoutmaster, a member of the Huntersville Retirement Group, and for 60 years he was a member of Campbell No. 67 Lodge; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Dixon, who was predeceased by his parents, Irene and Joseph Dixon, Sr., and by his son, Anwar, leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years, Bettie L. Dixon; his daughters, Doris, Cathey René, and Stephanie, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an esteemed citizen and devoted family man, Joseph Dixon, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joseph Dixon, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
