HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 232
Celebrating the life of F. Wayne McLeskey, Jr.

WHEREAS, F. Wayne McLeskey, Jr., a successful Tidewater real estate developer and community supporter, died on January 6, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk, Wayne McLeskey evidenced his entrepreneurial ambitions at a young age, selling Liberty Magazine on the corner of 34th and Colley Avenue and delivering Madolene pickles with his mother at the age of 10; and

WHEREAS, in his early 20s, Wayne McLeskey worked part-time at Furr Realty, gaining valuable experience and developing a strong work ethic based on the example of his mentors there; and

WHEREAS, Wayne McLeskey enjoyed a 65-year career in real estate development, playing a pivotal role in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area’s growth and development over the decades; and

WHEREAS, a savvy businessman, Wayne McLeskey developed a wide range of properties, including the Lynnhaven Marine Boatel and Indoor Dry Storage Facilities, Virginia Beach Fishing Center, Regency Hilltop Shopping Center, Red Oaks Mobile Community, and Miars Plantation; and

WHEREAS, Wayne McLeskey freely gave his time and talents to numerous local and state entities, including the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Tidewater Homebuilders Association; and

WHEREAS, an exceptionally generous man, Wayne McLeskey took an active role in the affairs of his community, contributing to local charitable organizations and other causes and individuals; and

WHEREAS, a passionate aviator and boater, Wayne McLeskey loved nothing more than to pilot his aircraft and to billfish on his boat in the waters of the Atlantic; and

WHEREAS, Wayne McLeskey had a deep appreciation for the Tidewater area’s unique natural resources and was instrumental in developing the sport of off-shore billfishing in the City of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina and was heavily involved in the planning and development of the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center and served on its board of directors; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Wayne McLeskey will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving family and many friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an outstanding citizen of the Commonwealth, F. Wayne McLeskey, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of F. Wayne McLeskey, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
