HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 224
Commending Terrence L. Nyhous.

WHEREAS, Terrence L. Nyhous served the residents of Fauquier County with great dedication as the Center Magisterial District member of the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Terrence Nyhous enjoyed a distinguished 20-year career with the United States Air Force that included service as the Director, Executive Director, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs; and

WHEREAS, a highly decorated officer, Terrence Nyhous also completed a master’s degree from the University of North Dakota before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel and eventually moving to Fauquier County in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Nyhous immersed himself in community endeavors, serving as the executive director of the 10th Congressional District Republican Committee and as secretary of the Land Trust of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Nyhous began his experience in elected office as a member of Warrenton’s Town Council, where he ably represented Ward 4 for four years; and

WHEREAS, known and respected for his commitment to serving his community, Terrence Nyhous then won election to the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors and began his term in 2008, serving as vice-chair in 2009 and chair in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Nyhous provided strong leadership and thoughtful insight to the board of supervisors during his tenure as he worked to ensure the efficient and effective operation of local government; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Nyhous devoted many hours to responding to constituent concerns and working with his fellow supervisors and other local leaders on important county issues; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Nyhous looks forward to continuing to be of service to local residents and fellow veterans through his membership in Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9835, American Legion Post 72, Citizens for Fauquier County, and the Fauquier County Republican Committee; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Terrence L. Nyhous for his devoted service to the residents of Fauquier County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Terrence L. Nyhous as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his service and best wishes in his future endeavors.
