2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Bob Hill, who served the Towns of Bridgewater and Mount Crawford with great distinction as Chief of Police, retired on September 1, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Bob Hill began his exemplary career in law enforcement with the City of Harrisonburg Police Department and joined the Bridgewater Police Department in 1976 as its fourth officer; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated police officer, Bob Hill worked hard to ensure the safety of local citizens and enforce the laws of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, appointed Chief of Police effective January 1, 1997, Chief Hill oversaw the growth of the police force over the years to a present-day, nine-officer force that also provides service to the Town of Mount Crawford; and
WHEREAS, an admired leader, Chief Hill worked alongside town officials to create a positive working environment and constantly motivated his officers as they performed their duties; and
WHEREAS, committed to maintaining a police force in excellent physical condition, Chief Hill led by example as he participated in races, biked, and earned a black belt in karate; and
WHEREAS, Chief Hill wisely recognized that the police department could more efficiently serve the community by moving certain processes from paper to computers and played a key role in that transition; and
WHEREAS, during Chief Hill’s tenure, the Town of Bridgewater enjoyed the lowest or second lowest crime rate in Virginia for towns with populations above 3,500; and
WHEREAS, Chief Hill has devoted more than 35 years to law enforcement, helping create a safer community for the residents of the Towns of Bridgewater and Mount Crawford; and
WHEREAS, Chief Hill now looks forward to spending more time with his family, including granddaughter Lilliana, during his retirement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Bob Hill on the occasion of his retirement as Chief of Police of the Towns of Bridgewater and Mount Crawford; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bob Hill as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his public service and best wishes for all his future endeavors.
