HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 204 Commending the Liberty High School girls’ basketball team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2012 Agreed to by the Senate, January 26, 2012

 

WHEREAS, the Liberty High School girls’ basketball team won the 2010 - 2011 Virginia High School League Group AA Division 4 state championship—the first time in county history that a team from Fauquier had won a state title; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty Eagles defeated Loudoun County High School 68 - 55 to claim the state trophy, and during their climb to victory in the regular season, the Eagles faced international competition when they played a team from Australia; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty Eagles, who were led by starters Jazmon Gwathmey, Elizabeth Wood, Brianne Croushorn, Ashlyn Lindsay, and Katie Reeves, were ably coached by Lauren Milburn, head varsity coach at Liberty High School; and

WHEREAS, in state tournament competition, the Liberty High School girls’ basketball team set a record of 47 percent field goal shooting in the final three games of the Group AA Division 4 championship; and

WHEREAS, the resounding victory over Loudoun County High School for the state crown was even more satisfying for the Liberty Eagles because the team had lost to Loudoun County during the regular season; and

WHEREAS, support for the Liberty High School girls’ basketball team came from the school, the community, and the entire county—all joined together to celebrate and offer congratulations to the first team from Fauquier to bring home a state championship trophy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the talented and hardworking Liberty High School girls’ basketball team for winning the 2010 - 2011 Virginia High School League Group AA Division 4 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lauren Milburn, head varsity coach of the Liberty High School girls’ basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations for an outstanding season.
