WHEREAS, Dulles Chapter 1241 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association celebrates 40 years of working to protect the earned benefits of its members; and

WHEREAS, Dulles Chapter 1241 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) began in April 1972 when a group of local retirees met at Lake Anne Hall in Reston to discuss forming a chapter of NARFE; and

WHEREAS, at its June 27, 1972, meeting, Dulles Chapter 1241 NARFE was presented its charter with nine members and five guests in attendance; and

WHEREAS, during its first year, Dulles Chapter 1241 NARFE experienced a huge growth in membership, necessitating a move to Herndon’s Town Hall; the chapter met briefly at Sterling Middle School before returning to Herndon and meeting in the VEPCO building; and

WHEREAS, by 1980 Dulles Chapter 1241 NARFE had 200 members and met at the Lake Anne Fellowship House while supporting NARFE efforts to have federal and state annuities treated the same for state tax calculations; and

WHEREAS, to keep its members better informed about its activities, Dulles Chapter 1241 NARFE began a newsletter in 1983, sharing the chapter’s efforts to ensure that the federal retirement program did not merge with the Social Security program; and

WHEREAS, during the 1990s, Dulles Chapter 1241 NARFE underwent changes in membership numbers and changed its meeting locations, all while serving its members and lobbying Congress and the federal administration on pertinent issues; and

WHEREAS, today, Dulles Chapter 1241 NARFE members number in the hundreds and meet monthly at the Amphora restaurant in Herndon to hear a speaker and continue their proud tradition of working to protect their earned benefits; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dulles Chapter 1241 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dulles Chapter 1241 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the chapter’s commitment to its members.
