2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Kate Trussell, a volunteer at Union Mill Elementary School in Clifton, was honored for her many contributions to the school and community with the 2011 Virginia PTA Primary Education Volunteer of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic leader, Kate Trussell has been actively involved with Union Mill Elementary School for several years, serving as a room parent, library volunteer, and member of the school’s parent teacher association executive board; and
WHEREAS, Kate Trussell heads up the school’s Bread Basket program, which allows students, parents, and staff the opportunity to give back to the community by preparing sandwiches for a local food bank; and
WHEREAS, Kate Trussell oversees students who meet on Wednesday mornings to assemble sandwiches, with meat and cheese given by parents, and bread, condiments, sandwich bags, and sanitary gloves donated by the PTA; and
WHEREAS, Kate Trussell makes the experience fun and educational for students, who gain a better understanding of what it means to give back to the community and be involved citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Bread Basket program not only provides a great learning opportunity for students, but an essential service to the community; during the 2010 - 2011 school year, Union Mill Elementary School donated over 11,000 sandwiches to the food bank; and
WHEREAS, an energetic and dedicated volunteer, Kate Trussell exemplifies the important role that family members can play in the school environment as they donate their time and energy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Kate Trussell on her selection as the 2011 Virginia PTA Primary Education Volunteer of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kate Trussell as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for her commitment to the youth of the Commonwealth.
