Celebrating the life of Guy Milton Cheatham, Jr.

WHEREAS, Guy Milton Cheatham, Jr., a lifelong resident of Chesterfield County, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Guy Cheatham was born on November 15, 1926, to Anne Butler Mason Cheatham and Guy Milton Cheatham, attended Midlothian High School, and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1949 with a degree in agricultural engineering; and

WHEREAS, Guy Cheatham served his country with honor in the United States Navy during World War II, interrupting his education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute to do so; and

WHEREAS, a respected and able businessman and farmer, Guy Cheatham retired after 32 years from the Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, where he held a number of increasingly responsible positions in sales; and

WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Guy Cheatham unselfishly devoted his time to family and community, serving as a founding member of the Tomahawk Ruritan Club and as a member in good standing of the Midlothian Ruritan Club, American Legion Post 186, Tomahawk Baptist Church, Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, and Willow Oaks Country Club; and

WHEREAS, Guy Cheatham will be remembered for his love of his family, the Commonwealth, and his country, and for his ever present cheerful mood, big smile, and helpful hand; he will be greatly missed by his beloved wife and sons, other loving family members, and many friends and admirers in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an American patriot and a fine Virginia native son, Guy Milton Cheatham, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Guy Milton Cheatham, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
