WHEREAS, the Honorable G. Glenn Oder served the Commonwealth with great distinction as an esteemed member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of Newport News, Glenn Oder received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University before returning to his hometown and beginning his professional career; and

WHEREAS, committed to the thoughtful development of Newport News, Glenn Oder ably served as a member of the Newport News Planning Commission, working on a variety of issues related to the growth and development of the City; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Oder gained valuable housing experience as president of the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association and principal deputy director of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to Newport News and the Commonwealth, Glenn Oder ran for state office and was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates representing part of the City of Newport News; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Oder provided wise guidance and conscientious service on the Transportation Committee; General Laws Committee; Counties, Cities and Towns Committee; the Joint Commission on Transportation Accountability; and the Virginia Housing Commission; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Oder took a leadership role as vice-chair of the Transportation Committee, chair of the General Laws Housing subcommittee, and chair of the General Laws ABC/Gaming subcommittee; and

WHEREAS, known for his congenial manner and strong work ethic, Glenn Oder worked tirelessly alongside his fellow legislators to champion important legislation that would benefit the citizens of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Oder continues to serve in the public arena as Executive Director of the Fort Monroe Authority, overseeing the conversion of the military installation to an educational historic site; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Oder’s unwavering commitment to public service has inspired countless colleagues and officials throughout the Commonwealth as they labor on behalf of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable G. Glenn Oder for his years of devoted service to the Commonwealth as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable G. Glenn Oder as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his hard work and friendship.
