12101474DWHEREAS, by Executive Order No. 24, Governor Robert F. McDonnell continued the Public Safety Memorial Commission until September 11, 2011; and
WHEREAS, the Commission was established to design an appropriate memorial to forever remember the courage and sacrifice of Virginia’s public safety officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, public safety officers, for the purpose of the Memorial, include law-enforcement officers, firefighters, jail and correctional officers, members of the Virginia National Guard and Virginia Defense Force, emergency management and hazardous materials personnel, Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control enforcement agents, volunteer rescue squad members, emergency medical services personnel, conservation police, marine resource officers, state park rangers, and forest wardens; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial should also recognize the courage and sacrifice of state and local probation and parole officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Governor be requested include in the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial the names of state and local probation and parole officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
