Commending H. Carter Myers III.

WHEREAS, H. Carter Myers III, of Colonial Auto Center in Charlottesville, is a 2011 Time Magazine Quality Automobile Dealer of the Year nominee for Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Carter Myers III, whose career in the auto industry has spanned more than 50 years, has continued the family business started by his grandfather in Petersburg in 1924 that today includes his daughter, Liza Myers Borches, as the first fourth generation dealer in Virginia; the business serves customers at multiple locations around the Commonwealth with numerous franchises; and

WHEREAS, an active and dedicated member of his community, Carter Myers has served on a wide array of local boards, commissions, and committees for many years; and

WHEREAS, Carter Myers has been a leader in his community as a longtime supporter of the YMCA and the United Way in the numerous communities that his dealerships serve; and

WHEREAS, Carter Myers has been a leader in his home of Charlottesville as a cofounder of the Thomas Jefferson Partnership for Economic Development, which fosters strong and vibrant economic opportunity for Charlottesville and its surrounding areas, and as a valuable member on the University of Virginia Children’s Medical Center Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, a steadfast member of his local business community, Carter Myers has served on the Executive Committee of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors for the Richmond Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce, the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Chesterfield Business Council; and

WHEREAS, Carter Myers served the Commonwealth as a member of the Commonwealth Transportation Board at the request of two Governors of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, an active and dedicated member of his industry, Carter Myers has served his customers and his community with a generous spirit and has been an example to dealers in his community and around the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Carter Myers has earned the Honda President’s Award six times and has been an active member of Automotive Retailing Today, including as chairman of the organization; and

WHEREAS, Carter Myers has served his industry as an active member and chairman of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association and as chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend H. Carter Myers III on his selection as a 2011 Time Magazine Quality Automobile Dealer of the Year nominee for Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to H. Carter Myers III as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes.
