2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jasmine Brown, a senior at Great Bridge High School and a resident of Chesapeake, was recognized as a Distinguished Finalist in the 16th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for her impressive community service activities; and
WHEREAS, conducted by Prudential Financial, Inc., in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is the largest youth volunteer service recognition program in the United States and has honored more than 95,000 volunteers at the local, state, or national level since its inception in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Jasmine Brown was one of the 233 students recognized in the 2011 nationwide awards program for her enormous capacity for giving to and working for those in need; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast, Jasmine Brown was motivated to improve literacy opportunities for underprivileged children; and
WHEREAS, Jasmine Brown founded “Today’s Readers–Future Leaders” to provide nearly 4,000 books and school supplies to more than 1,500 children in need; and
WHEREAS, Jasmine Brown networked with local businesses to establish collection sites, sorted and cleaned the donated books and supplies, and distributed them through numerous organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program has recognized Jasmine Brown for her enormous efforts and encouraged her to continue to lead others through volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Jasmine Brown received an engraved bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion as a token of the program’s respect and admiration; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jasmine Brown on her recognition as a Distinguished Finalist in the 16th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jasmine Brown as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on this distinguished honor and appreciation for her service to her community.
