WHEREAS, Margo Deihl, a senior at Riverbend High School in Fredericksburg and a resident of Spotsylvania, was recognized as a Distinguished Finalist in the 16th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for her impressive community service activities; and

WHEREAS, conducted by Prudential Financial, Inc., in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is the largest youth volunteer service recognition program in the United States and has honored more than 95,000 volunteers at the local, state, or national level since its inception in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Margo Deihl was one of 233 students recognized in the 2011 nationwide awards program for her enormous capacity for giving to and reaching out to those in need; and

WHEREAS, diagnosed with scleroderma at the age of eight, Margo Deihl is an avid spokesperson for the National Arthritis Foundation and has raised $6,000 through her participation in numerous fund-raising events; and

WHEREAS, Margo Deihl founded an Arthritis Exercise Program to provide supportive therapy to arthritis patients who are unable to afford private therapy; and

WHEREAS, Margo Deihl has spoken before Congress as a youth advocate and served as a keynote speaker for the Arthritis Ball; and

WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program has recognized Margo Deihl for her enormous efforts and encouraged her to continue to lead others through volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, Margo Deihl received an engraved bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion as a token of the program’s respect and admiration; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Margo Deihl on her recognition as a Distinguished Finalist in the 16th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Margo Deihl as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on this distinguished honor and appreciation for her service to her community.
