Celebrating the life of Ann Richardson Yankovich.

WHEREAS, Ann Richardson Yankovich, a retired nurse and child advocate from Williamsburg, died on May 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a Richmond native, Ann Yankovich and her future husband, James Michael Yankovich, were sweethearts at John Marshall High School; and

WHEREAS, Ann Yankovich received the A.D. Williams Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement from the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing, where she earned her degree in 1957; and

WHEREAS, as a young nurse in Richmond and Charlottesville area hospitals and public health departments, Ann Yankovich began a career in health care that was dedicated to serving others; and

WHEREAS, Ann Yankovich endeavored to instill the values of professional, compassionate care as a nursing instructor at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, and as a longtime instructor for the American Red Cross; and

WHEREAS, from 1974 until her retirement in 1990, Ann Yankovich served as the coordinator of Health Services for the Williamsburg-James City County Schools where she coordinated a multidisciplinary team to report and combat child abuse; and

WHEREAS, in 1988, the Virginia Department of Social Services recognized the innovative and effective approach developed by Ann Yankovich by bestowing upon her the prestigious Outstanding Service Award; and

WHEREAS, Ann Yankovich served as president, founder, and volunteer with the Olde Towne Medical Center, which she helped to establish in 1993; as a member and chair of the James City County Social Services Board; and as a member of the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation and Williamsburg Landing; and

WHEREAS, Ann Yankovich was a decades-long member of and served one term as president of the Virginia Board of Nursing from 1991–1995; and

WHEREAS, Ann Yankovich will be fondly remembered by Jim, her husband of 53 years, her children and grandchildren, and the many community members and medical professionals her life influenced; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ann Richardson Yankovich; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ann Richardson Yankovich as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
