Celebrating the life of William Edward Dudley Digges.

WHEREAS, William Edward Dudley Digges, a respected builder and developer of affordable housing in Williamsburg, died on January 14, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of Maryland, William Digges graduated from Villanova University and attended the University of Maryland Law School; and

WHEREAS, a patriotic American service member, William Digges served in the United States Army during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated family man, William Digges married Naomi and was the proud father of five children, Sarah, Anne, John, Nina, and Brian, and was the grandfather of 10 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, William Digges and his brothers formed Digges Bros., Inc., a construction company, and built an estimated 1,000 homes in Williamsburg and the surrounding region; and

WHEREAS, families in communities including Windy Hill, Shellis Square, Jamestown 1607, Baron Woods, and Chisel Run live in affordable homes constructed by William Digges and Digges Bros., Inc.; and

WHEREAS, William Digges and Digges Bros., Inc., also contributed to the commercial development of Williamsburg and built the Ingram Road Office Park; and

WHEREAS, an active member of the community he helped to build, William Digges was a parishioner of St. Bede Catholic Church and was known for his love of reading, politics, and lively discussion; and

WHEREAS, with an admirable generosity of spirit and genuine compassion for others, William Digges was well-liked and respected throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, William Digges will be fondly remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren and by his many family members and friends as a man who fully knew how to celebrate life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of William Edward Dudley Digges, respected builder and developer of affordable housing; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Edward Dudley Digges as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
