WHEREAS, Suzanne P. Scull, an artist, educator, and resident of Newport News, died on December 25, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a native of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, Suzanne Scull graduated from Pequannock Township High School and attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, a talented artist and compassionate educator, Suzanne Scull worked as a teacher in Denton, Maryland, and taught art at St. Andrews Episcopal School in Newport News; and
WHEREAS, after relocating to Newport News, Suzanne Scull was able to explore her interests in painting, boating, fishing, crabbing, walking on the beach, and gardening and to contribute to her community in myriad ways; and
WHEREAS, committed to creating a stronger community through art, Suzanne Scull joined the many diverse artists who enjoyed the creative energy of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Scull participated in philanthropic projects to promote volunteerism and improve the community as a member of the Junior League of Hampton Roads; and
WHEREAS, along with her husband, Ward, Suzanne Scull enjoyed activities and time with her friends at the James River Country Club; and
WHEREAS, with a love of nature and a natural green thumb, Suzanne Scull had a talent for gardening and was a member of the Huntington Garden Club; and
WHEREAS, a faithful member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Suzanne Scull participated in Community Bible Study; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Scull immersed herself in the Hampton Roads community as a citizen, artist, and volunteer and was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Scull will be fondly remembered by her husband, Ward, and her children, Leah and Ward; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Suzanne P. Scull, artist and educator; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Suzanne P. Scull as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
